The nation was left slack-jawed when, last night, it was revealed that BOBBY BEALE had clubbed sister Lucy to death with her own music box.
And, perhaps more intriguingly, that his devoted adoptive mother Jane was the one who'd covered up the crime.
And now EastEnders' executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins has promised that there is an "even bigger" story ahead for the Beale family now that the truth behind Lucy's death has been exposed.
Speaking in a live EastEnders Facebook stream, Dominic said: "We always said that this story had to come from the heart, and with this, it's the start of a whole big new story for the Beales.
"We kept on going on about [2003 novel] We Need To Talk About Kevin - we need to talk about Bobby!
"So actually this is the beginning of an even bigger story for the Beales. We've got to keep going!"
If you haven't seen or read We Need To Talk About Kevin, it's a story which follows one mother's fear of her own son - and what he could do.
Check it out:
Bearing in mind that Kevin's character winds up becoming more and more twisted as the storyline continues, this doesn't bode well for Jane Beale - or the rest of Walford.
Dominic also explained that young actor Eliot Carrington, who plays Bobby, responded positively to the news he was the murderer.
The soap's executive producer said: "We told [Eliot] on Monday. We told his dad before that obviously and checked that it was okay, but we knew that it was always going to be Bobby.
"But when we told him... he's so clever, Eliot! He said, 'Oh God, that makes sense. Of course Jane had to do it because otherwise Bobby would go to juvey'.
"He's a clever little boy!"
The aftermath of the big reveal will be explored on screen on Friday as EastEnders airs a 30-minute live episode.
Teasing the upcoming storyline, Dominic added: "The interesting thing is, Bobby... well, we'll find out more tomorrow! There's more to find out tomorrow."
We wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that Bobby Beale seems to have absolutely no recollection of his involvement in Lucy's death? Not to mention the fact he returned to Walford to "find Lucy's killer"...?
Guess we'll just have to wait and see - roll on 8pm!
