Mum 'Jane' spoke to Holly Willoughby and Ben Shephard today, appealing for help on controlling her six-year-old son's food obsession.

Explaining that her child eats healthily and exercises, she revealed that the problem started a year ago when he broke his foot.

She told presenters Holly Willoughby and Ben Shephard:

"I need to get some help with him and his weight, it started when he broke his foot and needed it in plaster so he wasn't mobile. He sat there, did drawings and ate and wasn't getting any exercise.

"To tell the truth I didn't realise (how much weight he had gained). He was wearing elastic shorts because of the plaster so I didn't notice his waist was getting bigger.

"He broke his foot just before the school holidays and six weeks later when he went back to school teachers noticed and said "what has happened?" I said, "what do you mean, he looks fine to me?" Six weeks shows how quickly it happened.

"I think his food has become an obsession and I didn't realise until recently that he has been stealing food from the fridge and hiding it in his room.

"He tells friends he hasn't eaten and they will feed him then he will come back to me and say he hasn't eaten," she explained.

"He is eating healthily which is is why I couldn't understand why he hasn't lost weight.

She said: "We do get out and about as much as we can but gyms won't take those his age and he's not able to join the school football club until he is older. He has a bike and a trampoline and I take him swimming."

Health campaigners want children to undergo a 'yearly MOT' health check' from the age of three in a bid to detect the onset of obesity at an early stage.
