That's right; Amy Kelly, 19, is bidding goodbye to Weatherfield.

The actress apparently met with Corrie bosses last year to reveal she wanted to leave her role as Maddie Heath, and is set to bow out of the soap this summer.

Amy told The Sun newspaper: "I'm young and adventurous and I want to gain more experience and explore and improve my craft.

"Acting is my passion and I'm excited to see where it takes me."

The news will have come as a surprise to fans of the soap - especially as Corrie boss Stuart Blackburn previously admitted he wanted to keep her in the show for as long as possible.

Just last year, he revealed: "The joy with Amy is that she has no idea how good she is.

"Short of her wanting to go, the character of Maddie will be here as long as I'm here."

We imagine this means the door will be left open for troubled teen Maddie Heath - who is dating Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) to return.
