Oh yes - there’s a new Connor in Weatherfield. And he looks set to be a heartbreaker.
Shayne Ward will be joining the show as Aidan Connor, a distant cousin of Michelle who grew up on the same estate as her and Carla.
Unsurprisingly, he soon sets hearts fluttering - but it seems as if he’s no pushover, and he quickly makes an enemy of Tracy Barlow’s ex hubbie Robert Preston, played by Tristan Gemmill.
While we’re excited about the news ( because, let’s face it, who wouldn’t be?), we’re nowhere NEAR as hyped-up about Aidan Connor’s appearance as Shayne Ward himself.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “I’m so happy right now. Keeping this a secret was tough.
“OMG... I'm gonna be on CORONATION STREET - aaaaarrrrrgggggghhhhhh!!!”
Samia Ghadie, who plays Maria in the show, was quick to offer her congratulations to the star.
She wrote: “Eeek finally!! welcome to the family Shayney!”
Aidan is just the first of the new Connor clan to arrive in Weatherfield and will be followed in the coming months by his dad and sister.
Like Shayne, Aidan is from Manchester and has an extended family over in Ireland.
Speaking about the casting decision, show boss Stuart Blackburn said: ”When Shayne came in and auditioned we knew he was up against some very stiff competition.
“But he blew us away from the very get go delivering a charm and a swagger that is perfect for the character.
“I can't wait to see him in action!”
