According to the Hollywood Reporter, Irish actor Colin Farrell has signed up to Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them… and we definitely weren't expecting that!

Colin, 39, is set to star alongside Eddie Redmayne, who plays the main role of Newt Scamander.

The story follows Newt around New York as he discovers new magical creatures. It's set 70 years before Harry, Ron and Hermione start Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Irish hunk Colin will play Graves, one of the wizards Newt encounters on his adventures and we can't wait to see him in action!

It's been confirmed that Fantastic Beasts will be a trilogy of films and J.K. Rowling, the author of the best-selling books, will write the screen play.

Speaking of her cinematic debut, Rowling said: "An idea took shape that I couldn't dislodge.

"That's how I ended up pitching my own idea for a film to Warner Bros. I always said that I would only revisit the wizarding world if I had an idea that I was really excited about and this is it."

The original Harry Potter film franchise has grossed over $7 billion worldwide – so it looks like Fantastic Beasts is almost guaranteed to be a hit.
