Benedict Cumberbatch has been bagging award nominations left, right and centre for his role in The Imitation Game.

But, despite enjoying the glamour of Hollywood, the actor has revealed that he desperately wants to star in BBC One's EastEnders.

Speaking with Bang Showbiz at Sunday’s BAFTAs, he said: “It’s EastEnders next!”

Maybe he could pop up during live week, just in time to tell us who killed Lucy Beale?

While it seems unlikely that Benedict could ever make it onto Albert Square, he is pretty good friends with Jessie Wallace, who plays market trader Kat Moon.

He said: “Jessie’s really lovely and the first time I met her was at an awards show, and she just shouts ‘you’re f****** brilliant’ and I just shout it back,” he said.

“I think she’s amazing.”

Such flatter - we wonder if maybe she could help him woo producers?

One thing's for sure, if Benedict DID land a role on the popular soap, he'd probably wind up brawling with Danny Dyer's Mick Carter.

Why? Well, Danny recently said: “In this country, [Benedict] has got utmost respect, but if he walked into a pub he’d get annihilated by geezers.

"He’d be bullied… he couldn’t play a kid from a working-class estate, but I couldn’t do what he does either."

We guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens then, won't we?
