It’s been almost two months since Love Island's Molly-Mae Hague called off her engagement to fiancé Tommy Fury. And last week, the boxer’s memoir, Lightning Can Strike Twice: My Life As A Fury, hit the shelves, dropping bombshells about their relationship.
In the book, Tommy, 25, writes about the pair having an argument which almost left Molly-Mae, 25, in tears as they were in the car on the way to their engagement. He also details how the couple would have disputes at least once a month, and how hurt he is that he missed so much of the start of his one-year-old daughter Bambi’s life due to work conflicts. Despite this, Tommy refers to Molly-Mae as his soulmate in the memoir, and in a recent interview said, ‘I will love her until my final breath. I know what I have to do in order to resolve things.’
Now, insiders tell Closer that the public airing of their most private moments has left Molly-Mae overwhelmed and feeling torn.
‘The last few weeks have been a lot for Molly-Mae,’ says a source. ‘Tommy is making everything so public about how he still loves her and promising that the truth is going to come out. The reality is Molly-Mae doesn’t want all of this playing out publicly and for Tommy to be pouring his heart out under the spotlight, she thinks they should deal with it privately.
‘She's feeling totally divided over a reconciliation. In an ideal world, of course they would still be together and be the best parents to their child. But so much has happened and she's not the person she was anymore.’
Molly-Mae and Tommy, who share their one-year-old daughter, Bambi, met on Love Island back in 2019, immediately hitting it off and making it all the way to second place. Since then, Molly-Mae has amassed a £6.5m fortune thanks to her brand, Filter, and seven-figure deals with the likes of L’Oréal, while Tommy has continued to box professionally, taking on opponents like YouTuber Jake Paul. After dating for four years, Tommy popped the question in Ibiza, and it looked like they were all set to have the fairy-tale wedding until August, when Molly-Mae revealed that the pair had split.
She told her eight million Instagram followers, ‘Never in a million years did I ever think I'd have to write this. After five years of being together I never imagined our story would end, especially not this way. I am extremely upset to announce that mine and Tommy's relationship has come to an end.’ Her cryptic post had rumours swirling that Tommy had cheated on her, but the boxer has continuously denied these claims. Molly-Mae then uploaded a video to her YouTube channel expressing her desire to get over the break-up, saying, ‘I’m really looking forward to moving on.’
But now insiders say that she hasn't fully closed the door on reuniting with Tommy. Reports circulated that the influencer was planning a ‘make or break’ holiday to the Maldives with her ex in a last-ditch effort to reconcile, and sources tell Closer that Tommy won’t give up. The source says, 'Tommy wants to earn back her trust and love, which is why he is speaking out so much. He is adamant he didn’t betray her – and he is determined to set the record straight.
‘Molly-Mae feels that they both need space and time to breathe. She’s not ready to move on with anyone else, she truly believes Tommy wouldn’t be able to handle that. But that’s where her close family and friends fear that Tommy still has a hold over her.'
Molly-Mae, who recently launched her own clothing line, Maebe, which despite mixed reviews sold out in under 25 seconds, still has Bambi to think of. She told fans on YouTube, ‘Tommy is Bambi’s dad, and I will always value him and respect him.’ Viewers have also noticed the pair co-parenting in her recent vlogs, with Molly-Mae noting on one vlog that she spent a morning with her daughter before Tommy came to collect her.
The source adds, ‘It’s all very overwhelming and a lot to deal with for Molly-Mae while being a mother and navigating their split. She’s not completely ready to close the door on Tommy as her partner, but deep down she feels they’ll only have one more chance at getting it right. If they manage to blow it again, they’ll be over for good. She’s just not sure if she can handle the heartache all over again.’
