There’s been lots of talk in the beauty industry about the oil cleansing method (OCM), which uses types of botanical oil to restore hydration, tackle wrinkles and calm sensitive skin without a synthetic chemical in sight.

Even celebrities have been using the OCM, including Emma Stone, who uses natural grapeseed oil to give her complexion that flawless glow.

Spilling the beans on her beauty regime, the actress said:

"I just use natural grapeseed oil from the grocery store on my face as moisturiser.

"After the shower, I pat it on and then I'll use it throughout the day and at night.
I pretty much smell like grape all the time," she added.

The OCM is said to be great for women suffering from blackheads, breakouts and general dry skin. It can even help sort out greasy complexions, because treating your skin with oils will stop your pores producing excess sebum, which is what happens when you use harsh alcohol-based products to cleanse.

To start, you'll need to buy castor oil (most big supermarkets sell it) and one other type of natural oil, such as coconut, rapeseed, rosehip or sweet almond. Don't bother buying them from online boutiques because you can get them much cheaper in specialist food shops or supermarkets.

Using the OCM can improve both sensitive and oily skin types

When it's time to clean your face in the evening, mix a couple of spoonfulls of the castor oil with a few drops of your other oil. Warm the mixture very briefly by popping it in the microwave – you want it to be warm to the touch, not hot, so test it with a finger first.

Next, massage the oils into your face for a good five minutes, working it in firm circles around your cheeks, chin, jawline and forehead to remove all that make-up, grime and grease. You should be able to feel a grainy texture, which is all the muck coming out of your pores.

After that, take a clean flannel and soak it in hot water. Drape the flannel over your face for a minute and let the steam open up your pores.

To finish, wipe off all the remaining oil with your flannel and check out the results. Your skin should be feeling plumped, hydrated and soft to the touch.

Repeat the process twice a week – or more frequently if your skin needs it – and you will soon be rocking a gorgeous glow.
