Verity Bowditch: ‘Being vegan isn’t boring, it’s delicious!’

I’ve been raised as a vegetarian from birth. People are sometimes shocked when I say that, but I grew up in rural Dorset with so many animals around me that I’ve always been a huge advocate for animal welfare.

I remember visiting a dairy farm near me when I was younger and seeing cows being milked, and it just didn’t sit right with me. As I got older, I decided to educate myself on the benefits of a vegan diet and, two years ago, I decided to go vegan – and I haven’t looked back!

I’ve honestly felt amazing for it and I have so much more energy. It feels good knowing that I’m not negatively impacting the environment, too. If everyone became vegan, we wouldn’t have to worry about climate change half as much, because it would stop so much rainforest being destroyed by companies rearing cattle around the world.

People may assume being vegan is boring, and just all fruit and veg, but the variety of restaurants that offer vegan food and vegan alternatives available in supermarkets speaks for itself! You can get vegan burgers, vegan pizzas, vegan roast dinners… the list is endless.

Spencer Matthews and Caggie Dunlop

The OG tragic split, even featuring an IRL (well, scripted reality) leaving at the airport scene. Spencer and Caggie weren't officially a couple, with Spencer dating model Funda Önal, but the chemistry between them was undeniable and for a long time Spenny thought of her as the love of his life. Eventually, feeling played by Spencer stringing her along while refusing to dump Funda (we don't blame her, tbh) Caggie left to pursue a "music career" in New York, and Spencer, realising the error of his ways, rushed to catch her at the airport to win her back. He missed her. Talk about dramatic.

I have co-created a food company called Clean Kitchen, which offers vegan fast food: burgers, loaded fries, milkshakes, nuggets, you name it. I really encourage everyone to give some vegan meals a go every so often, so you can see they’re just as tasty.

I really want to try to reduce the stigma around being vegan by getting people to understand how easy it is to follow and what an incredible difference it makes.

Plant-based food brand Clean Kitchen is available exclusively on Deliveroo. Follow @cleankitchenuk on Instagram.
