Vicky's ultimate diet tips
Vicky Pattison's ultimate diet tips
Keep going to the gym- even when you’ve lost your weight
"I lost my weight last year and since then I’ve sort of to struggled- it’s difficult to have a busy lifestyle and focus on your fitness. I’ve tried to keep up in going to the gym. When I exercise I like the way my body looks and I like the way I behave- it’s a bit of a mood regulator."Since last year I really wanted to find help with the nutrition side of things. As I got busier and busier I had less time to spend in the house making salmon and broccoli!"
Never get caught short (don’t be a Harry potter!)
“That is when you get into trouble.”When I’m on the train and a woman goes past with the f***ing trolly, I’m like Harry Potter when he says ‘I’ll take the lot’. When I’m sitting on the train I’m just like ‘don’t be Harry Potter’. Nobody wants to live under stairs.”
Mix up your workouts
“I’ve been keeping up with my Mini V’s, I’ve been trying a to go to a different class at the gym every week.“I did spinning, I did Body Pump and I’m going to try Body Attack and yoga. If I can give ay advice to woman, it’s to try new things, font’ let anything get boring as that is when you sack it off.”
Educate yourself on where to eat out
“We’re working on a big list of the popular chain restaurants, coffee shops, whatever and whatever the healthy choices are there. But for me, Marks and Spencer’s has been my saving grace. I can get a packet of Mexican sliced chicken for 180 calories and a salad for 60, and that’s a delicious, healthy meal write there which you can eat on the train.“The hidden calories in chain restaurants are a nightmare. Some of their ‘healthy’ choices are just held together with butter and sugar. There’s so many white lies.”
Don’t focus on counting calories
“Women are fixated on calories, but you should be looking on protein content and good fats. People panic when they see a packet of almonds has all these calories but it’s good fats, fats that your body needs to actually keep healthy and even lose weight.”
Reserve your favourite foods for ‘cheat meals’
“My favourite foods from before have remained my ideal cheat meals now. Before they were like a regular tea but now they’re a treat after working hard at the gym. I treat myself to a Dominos. I also love sushi but that’s a healthier alternative. If I’m going to be naughty, it’ll be a Dominos.”
Give your taste buds a break
“I think when you strip your diet back and your not shoving your body with sugar and additives your taste buds become more aware. All these salads I couldn’t even taste, but now because I’m not unhealthy all these different flavours you can taste and be more aware of.”(Image: Vicky with Casey Batchelor)
Steer clear of tomato sauce
“I used to cover everything in tomato sauce. You may as well just pour cups of sugar over your eggs, but since reigning that in I’ve been enjoying food more.”
Be sensible with booze
“Alcohol is the devil. We all know how bad it is. It’s like drinking sugar. For woman, we store their toxins form their nipples to their knees- it goes to your belly, your hips and your thighs.”
Try and stay focused even when surrounded by temptation
“Having been so dedicated to my diet the Geordie Shore house was like breaking out of prison. I went wild. I was eating Doritos with both hands and I’d wake up with my hands in bags of Doritos on like mittens. I’d fall asleep eating crisps.”We had a sweet and crisps cupboard that we’d descend on after a night on like wild racoons, it was like the Hunger Games. The boys were fine because they want to be bigger but for women if they eat more calories they’ll gain weight- and we were consuming 1200 calories in drinks alone.”“I gained about a stone after coming out the house and the articles started. I was mortified.“I gained 10 pound max after eating what I wanted it was like give me break. That was when Mini V came about.”
Have an action plan for holidays and trips away
“I was going into series 9 when Mini V was fully developed and I went into the house and only gained 2 pounds. They’re ideal for when people go on a holiday for two weeks or whatever. I was able to maintain a relatively healthy lifestyle. I drank a lot less but that was because I was getting over it- it wasn’t me anymore.”
Don’t expect to change overnight
“I’m no different to anyone else. People think when you lose the weight you’re telling yourself I’m never eating an ice cream but that’s a lie. Every day I wake up and think I could so do with a bacon sandwich. You don’t wake up and think this diet stuff is brilliant and easy. What works with me is everything in moderation- you need to have a life.”
Be realistic
“I aim to be good 100% of the time because I know I’ll hit 80. You can allow yourself that 20% off- those drinks or that Dominos on a Sunday- or you’ll drive yourself mad. You’ll fall of the wagon and eat all of the chips in the world.“Relax, take a deep breath and find what works for you. It’s not about eating less, it’s about eating foods you can eat more of like veg with herbs and spices- you can have a whole massive plate of tasty, moreish food rather than one slice of pizza. Just make sensible decisions. Be realistic with yourself but make good decisions.”
Don’t give up on the first hurdle
“The day after a big night out you can beat yourself up for it, but instead wake up and have a big glass of water and your detox supplements, and you’re flying. Your body will start to respond when you treat yourself well. You have to see yourself as a well-oiled machine.”
