Believe it or not, the Kristen Stewart and Rupert Sanders affair wasn’t the first secret relationship to sprout on the set of a film. We look back at a few other scandalous relationships that may have slipped your mind…
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
Cue Hollywood’s most famous on set scandal - Brad and Angelina. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston had been married for five years. Pitt made a cameo role in Friends and everything looked rosy - until Mr & Mrs Smith of course. Pitt admitted to ‘falling in love’ with Angelina Jolie while filming the action blockbuster though both deny that anything took place. He divorced Aniston in 2005 and only a month later, photos surfaced of him vacationing with Ange and her son, Maddox. Eight years later, the couple are engaged and have three adopted children, Maddox, Pax and Zahara and three biological children, Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck
Way before Brangelina, the original amalgamation of names existed – Bennifer. Hollywood stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez met on the set of Gigli in early 2002, when J-Lo was married to her second husband, Cris Judd. Tongues started wagging when it appeared the on-screen lovers were in fact, dating off-screen. It wasn’t long before Lopez divorced the dancer and officially hooked up with Ben. An in true Hollywood fashion, and a surprisingly ironic twist, Affleck was rumoured to have had an affair with his current wife Jennifer Garner while he was still engaged to Lopez, and she was also married. And if that wasn’t enough infidelity to digest, Jenny from the Block then went to marry Marc Anthony after he left his former wife, the former Miss Universe, for her. Wow.
Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan
The Hollywood union between Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid was one that seemed distance to go the distance. The pair met and fell in love on the set of their successful sci-fi comedy, Innerspace, and married in 1991. Her films were popular, cementing herself as an A-list actress and queen of the romantic blockbuster. But when she decided to venture into dramatic fare in Proof of Life in 2000 it all ended. Enter Russell Crow. Ryan and Crowe, whose romance only lasted a few months, caused Quaid to file for divorce after ten years, despite the actress stating that her husband had been unfaithful too. To add to the mix, the reports of infidelity shattered Ryan’s professional image as America’s sweetheart and her career suffered a significant blow.
Julia Roberts & Danny Moder
Julia Roberts famously broke up the marriage of Danny Moder and his then-pregnant wife while embarking on an affair on the set of The Mexican. She was in a relationship with Benjamin Bratt, but although she denied any wrongdoing at first, the extra-marital affair was later confirmed by Vera Staimberg (the now ex-wife). Moder then left Staimberg a little over a year later and Roberts convinced the public that her relationship with the cameraman wasn’t just a one-off fling. Looks like she was right, as the couple have been married since 2004 and have three children together, making it Roberts’ longest relationship.

Billy Crudup & Claire Danes
Here’s another star that left his pregnant wife after an on-set affair. Crudup dumped Mary Louise Parker during her seventh month of pregnancy, after a fling with his Stage Beauty co-star, Claire Danes. She was rumoured to be linked with Australian rocker, Ben Lee, and denied that she was with Crudup during his marriage. The couple dated for two years before splitting. The Homeland star is now married to Hugh Dancy and are expecting their first child. Crudup on the other hand, has been romantically linked to many women, including Meryl Streep’s daughter, but is yet to settle down.
Ryan Philippe & Abbie Cornish
When Witherspoon won an Oscar for her role in Walk the Line, it looked like her marriage to Philippe could not be more perfect. But when the couple separated, people were shocked and rumours began floating that Philippe had supposedly cheated with his Stop Loss co-star, Abbie Cornish. Though he did not confirm the rumours that he was adulterous in his seven year marriage, he didn’t deny them either. It was then reported that Witherspoon, who has two children with the star, found out about her husband’s alleged romance with Cornish after reading a saucy note on his phone. The three year Cornish/Philippe romance was short lived amid rumours of – you guessed it, infidelity.
Rachel Weisz & Daniel Craig
This was one of the quickest romances to date. While playing a fake married couple in the psychological thriller Dream House, Daniel Craig and Oscar winner Rachel Weisz reportedly starting something real behind the scenes. Craig and Weisz were both engaged at the time - Craig to film producer Satsuki Mitchell, while Weisz had been engaged for some time to Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky. Neither confirms the affair but they were said to have started their romance after both were already split from their partners. The pair later tied the knot in a secret wedding ceremony in New York, with a reported four people present – Craig’s teenage daughter, Ella, Weisz’s five-year-old son Henry and two family friends.
Eddie Cibrian & Leann Rimes
The most recent scandal between Cibrian and LeAnn Rimes was more public than we can remember. The pair initially met on the set of the Northern Lights but the real news happened off screen. Both Cibrian and Rimes were married during the filming of the movie and when rumors spread about the affair, Rimes would not confirm or deny while Cibrian, who has two children, flat out denied it. Cibrian divorced his wife Brandi Glanville in 2009 and Rimes soon followed with Dean Shere metin 2010. Once the couple married in 2011, Rimes confirmed the affair.
