In an interview promoting her latest movie, ‘Gravity,’ Sandra said: ‘my mother raised me not to depend on a man for anything. I may have taken that to extremes.’

In ‘Gravity,’ Sandra plays an astronaut that is involved in an accident in space. The film has been popular with critics and Sandra’s role has already garnered rumours of an Oscar nomination.

Sandra- who turns 50 next year- is one of Hollywood’s highest paid actresses and has proved herself as a force to be reckoned with. The Oscar-winner adopted son Louis after her dramatic divorce in 2010. The split came after reports that her former husband had cheated on her.

The actress remained true to her word and has continued to be a box office heavy weight whilst raising her family.

Sandra revealed her drive to succeed, saying ‘I was always very driven and found it impossible to relax. I felt that if I slacked off for a minute to enjoy myself then so any things would be missed.’

Sandra then went on to discuss how her priorities had changed since she adopted her son. Her family now takes precedence over her film career. ‘Unless the film is a great experience for myself or my son then I am not going to leave my house to go to a film set.’
