Speaking to her local paper, Perrie's mum Debbie Edwards revealed:
'It's official. I'm over the moon. They are really in love.
'It's wonderful because Zayn is absolutely gorgeous. It's true they got engaged on Sunday and it's absolutely lovely.
'Perrie loves him to pieces and it's perfect. They get on so well together and understand each other. It's just fabulous.'
And the wedding may be sooner rather than later, with Debbie adding:
'She doesn't want a long engagement, but not a quick one either.
‘I think they'll eventually get together and set the date.’
Debbie also explained that the couple- both 20- decided against announcing the news at last night’s This Is Us premiere, so as not to overshadow One Direction’s long awaited world premiere.
The couple- who met during the eighth series of X Factor, have been dating for around 16 months, although their romance was rocked in January when Courtney Webb claimed she spent the night with the heart-throb at his London home.
However Zayn wooed his fellow pop star back by getting a tattoo of her on his arm.. and the rest is history!
A spokesman has also confirmed the young couple’s news, stating:
‘Zayn and Perrie are engaged but any further detail regarding their relationship is private.’
