Rihanna tweeted about the show, which featured a woman pull a live bird and turtles out of her nether regions.
The singer typed ‘I’m traumatized!’
The owner of the club, Waranyu Jornmuang, was arrested for ‘operating an entertainment venue without a permit and for providing a lewd show.’
The crackdown came after Thai tourism officials were left embarrassed by the popstar’s tweets, revealing the darker side to Thailand’s tourism industry. Phuket’s local district chief, Veera Kerdsirimongkol, said the arrest was ‘a result of a visit by Rihanna. The authorities will be more strict towards inappropriate shows or wildlife attractions.’
Tourists are warned against turning up to ‘ping pong’ sex shows such as the one that Rihanna attended. Tourists are often taken advantage of and threats of violence to those that fail to pay up have been reported in the past.
The arrest of the bar owner came after Rihanna inadvertently made officials aware that men were selling loris picture opportunities to tourists. Use of the protected species is illegal in Thailand and authorities were alerted of the animal’s plight, once again, through Rihanna’s twitter feed.
The lorises have since been seized from the men and are now expected to enjoy a better life at a national park away from the tourist hustle and bustle.
Rihanna stopped over in Phuket for some time off during the Asia leg of her Diamonds world tour.
