Katie Hopkins has been cleared by police for ‘abusive’ tweets about Ebola Nurse Pauline Cafferkey.

The former Apprentice star shocked the nation when she tweeted venom about Scottish nurse Pauline Cafferkey, who had fallen ill with Ebola after treating patients in Africa.

In December, the mum-of-three tweeted furiously about ‘little sweaty jocks’ before writing: "Sending us Ebola bombs in the form of sweaty Glaswegians just isn't cricket."

The 40-year-old added: “Glaswegian ebola patient moved to London's Royal Free Hospital. Not so independent when it matters most are we jocksville?"

After outraged followers complained to authorities in their hundreds, Police Scotland launched an investigation into Katie’s comments to find out if she had committed a hate crime.

Despite 20, 000 people signing a petition calling for Katie to be arrested, police ruled that no crime had been committed.

A spokeswoman from Police Scotland tole Mirror Online: “An investigation has been carried out and on this occasion no criminality has been established.”

Glaswegian James Gilchrist launched the petition back in December, blasting Katie as a ‘racist’.

He wrote in the petition: "For years, Katie Hopkins has seemingly gotten away with a string of controversial statements, either via main stream media or social media, without punishment.

"Many of these statements are racist or abusive, and are tantamount to bullying.

"Recently, she has attacked the Scottish people on twitter over the Ebola scare in Glasgow, calling them "Sweaty Jocks" and "Sweaty Glaswegians", before questioning the ability of the Scottish NHS.

"Her comments allude to a notion that Scots are not entitled to the correct treatment in London, by saying that "sending us Ebola bombs is just not cricket".

"Our health service is more than capable of dealing with this: however the victim has been sent to London as part of an emergency protocol, the same as ANY British citizen would have been in the event they contract the disease.

"This is an absolute insult to a human being who was selflessly trying to aid others who are suffering from this horrible illness. She has given up her time, and potentially put her life on the line, to assist others in a perilous state, and does not deserve to come back to abhorrence like this."
