Martine McCutcheon: ‘Plus size is a dirty word’

In this week’s issue of Closer we chat to Martine McCutcheon about her Hollywood highs, devastating lows, and why she’s in no rush to shed her baby weight

She successfully made the tricky transition from soap star to Hollywood actress when she starred in Love Actually, but the former EastEnders actress had her dreams crushed when she was left battling depression, chronic fatigue and was then declared bankrupt in 2013.

But when Closer met Martine McCutcheon last week – just seven months after having son Rafferty with musician husband Jack McManus – Martine, 39, who is still in touch with her Love Actually co-star Hugh Grant, said she’s finally at peace with her body after yo-yoing from a size 8 to a 16 over the years.

“Whatever stage I was at, I’ve always wanted to look nice in flattering clothing.

"The plus-size label is a bit of a dirty word – you’re just whatever size you are. I think what really matters is feeling good, whether you’re a size 12 or a 22.”
