Movie fans have been left saddened by the news that actor Christopher Lee has passed away.

According to sources close to his family, the 93-year-old died at 8.30am on Sunday at Chelsea Westminster Hospital in London.

The veteran actor was being treated for respiratory problems and heart failure before his sad death.

The British actor was renowned for his memorable characters.

As terrifying Count Dracula

He first shot to fame in the world renowned Hammer Horror films as Count Dracula in the 1950s.

In later years, younger audiences became familiar with his characters in Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

He also starred in 1973’s The Wicker Man and as Scaramanga in The Man With The Golden Gun.

Lee was working right up until his death. He was scheduled to appear in a film about 9/11 alongside Uma Thurman.

Tributes have already poured in for the popular actor.
