Speaking openly in her column, Kym Marsh explained that her youngest daughter Polly has been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnoea, which causes her to stop breathing during the night.

The Corrie star wrote: "I've been told she does need to have her tonsils out to fix this, so I'm trying to arrange a couple of days off from work.

"She'll be going under anaesthetic, which is not something you want, but it needs to be done as the condition can be dangerous.

"I'm gutted for her and I'm upset."

The 38-year-old mum-of-three is remaining positive, however, insisting: "She'll be fine - Polly is a little toughie and she'll be spoiled rotten when she's out!"

According to the NHS, apnoea causes the muscles and soft tissues in the throat to relax and collapse sufficiently to cause a total blockage of the airway for 10 seconds or more.

We hope little Polly gets well soon.
