The pair, who have been dating for 8 months, got engaged after Dan, 31, popped the question during a romantic weekend away shortly before Christmas.
And now the mum-of-three has revealed that he went to her two older children, Emilie and David, to ask for their permission.
Speaking on ITV's Loose Women, Kym Marsh said: "Yeah, he went to them about it."
The Coronation Street star also admitted that she would never have been able to love a man if he didn't get on with her children, let alone marry him.
"It is an extension of loving your partner.
"I don't think it would work, you can't be with someone who doesn't love your children."
Thankfully for Kym, however, this is absolutely not the case with Dan - who, when they tie the knot later this year, will be her third husband.
The former Hear’Say singer said Polly, 3, and Dan’s daughter Lexi, 4, are “like best friends” because they’re similar in age.
She also said Dan and her 19-year-old son David are really good mates.
The 38-year-old said: "They get on very well.
"My David, my son, and Dan, are very good mates. They'll go out and have a drink together and everything!"
Kym added firmly: "We're very much a family unit."
Do you agree with Kym Marsh - is the most important thing for single mums meeting a man who gets on with their children?
