Charity founder Katie Piper sadly missed daughter Belle’s first birthday after she had to stay in hospital following surgery relating to her acid attack injuries.

The Mail Online reported that Katie, 31, was having her oesophagus widened so she could eat.

The model sustained significant injuries to her throat during the horrific attack organised by her ex-boyfriend, and now receives treatment for permanent damage.

She tweeted over the weekend: "Thanks for all the birthday tweets for Belle! Unfortunately I'm In hospital but her dads tell me she's had a lovely party x."

A source later told Mail Online: "There was a slight side effect to the procedure causing the oesophagus to tear and causing air to leak into her body which is obviously very dangerous. She’s stable now but sadly had to miss her daughter’s first birthday."

It is understood that she is now recovering at home with her family.
