It didn't take social commentator Katie, 40, long to voice her opinion on those paying tribute to 72-year-old Cilla and, unsurprisingly, her comments weren't positive.

Katie wrote: "If there are any celebrities who haven't yet tweeted their sadness over Cilla, please report to Sincerity Services immediately #rushtogush [sic]."

But the mum-of-three's followers were quick to hit back.

One wrote: "@KTHopkins shut the f*ck up and have some bloody respect fr someone who has died. She is someone's mum, grandma, a legend [sic]."

In an attempt to defend herself, Katie responded: "I understand people love Cilla. But the race to proclaim this on Twitter is curious thing."

However not all of Katie's followers were in disagreement.

"Pains me as it does to write this," one said. "But horrible @KTHopkins is spot on re. responses to Cilla Black passing [sic]."

It was confirmed earlier today that entertainer and presenter Cilla died at her home near Marbella in Spain.

A Spanish police spokesman said: "I can confirm the death of British national Priscilla White, aged 72."
