Justin Bieber made the revelation during an interview with radio station Power 106 in LA.
He said: ‘After the new album, I'm actually retiring man. I'm retiring… I think I'm probably going to quit music.’
Justin then went into detail, saying he wants to take some time out to develop his music.
He said ‘I want to grow as an artist and I'm taking a step out, I want my music to mature.’
Fans took to Twitter in despair following the interview, but some of Justin’s critics expressed rejoice.
Actress Jennifer Lawrence even expressed her apparent upset, tweeting: ‘justin bieber is retiring what no you're kidding stop no i cant why what when how what why no lies stop crying why justin no stop bye what.’
Some fans are speculating that the revelation is part of a ‘joke’ on the singer’s behalf.
This comes after a year of controversy for Justin, which included an alleged visit to a brothel as well as angering Argentinian fans after kicking the country's flag across the stage during the South American leg of his world tour.
To add to the controversy, a video of the pop star was also leaked onto the internet, showing him asleep in his hotel room after spending the night with a fan.
Time will tell if Justin’s new album will, indeed, be his last.
His new album ‘Journals’ is out on the 23rd December.
