Gemma Collins recently claimed that Essex boys are, generally, quite controlling when it comes to relationships.
However Jessica Wright has now spoken up in their defence, insisting that it’s the women who need to make a change - not the boys.
She told new! magazine: "I have been with some controlling guys, but it's just a case of women standing up for themselves.
"I don't know about Essex guys in particular. I'm sure there are different kinds of men all over the place!"
Acknowledging that it is a ‘touchy subject’ at the moment, Jess went one step further to defend her fellow TOWIE stars from claims that they are abusive, threatening, and violent towards women.
She said firmly: "Oh God, it's a bit of a touchy subject.
“All I can say is that the guys on the show aren't violent, nobody is threatening and none of the girls are intimidated by them.
"They're a nice group of boys and I'm sure none of them would condone violence, and I've never witnessed any of them be violent."
Her comments come just months after leaked audio tapes (published by The Sun newspaper) appeared to show Dan Osborne - who has since been axed from the reality show - accusing ex-girlfriend Megan Tomlin of trying to break up their family.
In the clip, a man - purported to be the TOWIE star - then threatened to stick a knife in Megan if she ever had sex with another man, despite the fact he was already with EastEnders' Jacqueline Jossa at the time.
Police, who had been investigating the reality star over historical domestic violence claims, later revealed that Dan would be facing no further police action over the tape recording.
