Jennifer Lawrence is a seriously good role model for young girls; not only has she worked hard to promote a healthier body image for women, scored an Oscar for her amazing acting talent and spoken out against bullying, but now she has had her say on the over sexualisation of women in the entertainment industry.
And Jen, who last night attended the premiere of her latest film Hunger Games: Catching Fire, wasn't afraid to speak her mind when quizzed on the subject during a BBC Newsnight interview last night. Not even when she was asked specifically about the antics of Miley Cyrus, her co-star Liam Hemsworth's ex-girlfriend.
When asked about the example set by Miley, JenLaw said: "It is a part of the entertainment industry that sells. Sex sells, and for some disgusting reason young sex sells even more."
Jennifer stopped short of naming Miley - who has provoked controversy in recent months with her skimpy outfits and twerking - but said: "For some people, that’s how they feel best, that’s how they feel sexy."
The actress added that as long as she stars in movies that appeal to young girls, she will "make conscious decisions" to set a good example. Something proven by her decision to show Katniss Everdeen as a strong character with a realistic body image:
"She’s from District 12 she’s obviously underfed so she would be incredibly thin but we have the ability to control this image that young girls are going to be seeing.
"Girls see enough of this body that we can’t imitate, that we’ll never be able to obtain these unrealistic expectations and this is going to be their hero.
"We have control of that so it’s an amazing opportunity to rid ourselves of that in this industry and also I think that it’s better to look strong and healthy I feel like somebody you know Kate Moss running at you with like a bow and arrow wouldn't really be scary."
Amazing. Fingers crossed that more and more young girls take heed of Jen's good example.
