Janet Jackson addresses cancer rumours on Twitter: “I’m recovering”

Following reports she is suffering from throat cancer, Janet Jackson has taken to social media to clear up the rumours.

The 49-year-old recently announced she's been forced to postpone her first tour in five years in order to have unspecified surgery.

As a result, the rumour mill went into overdrive - with some US news reports claiming the superstar has throat cancer.

But Janet has insisted the show will go on, telling fans via Twitter: "Remember... Believe it when you hear it from my lips.

"I do not have cancer. I am recovering. My doctor's have approved my concerts as scheduled in Europe, and as I promised the postponed shows will be rescheduled."

Janet added: "Thank you for your prayers and love."

On 25 December Janet released a statement informing fans that the tour - in support of new studio album Unbreakable - would have to be rescheduled.

She said: "Hey you guys. Happy Holidays to each and every one of you. I need you to know, I learned today, from my doctors that I must have surgery soon.

"It breaks my heart to tell you that I am forced to postpone the Unbreakable Tour until the spring."

She added: "Please pray for me, my family and our entire company during this difficult time. There will be no further comment. I love you all and am ever grateful for your understanding and your love. Gon'b alright [sic]."
