Horror as man discovered barbecuing a guinea pig in a park

Guinea pig lovers have been left shocked and appalled after a man was found barbecuing a guinea pig in a park.

Police refused to arrest the man in question, claiming that he wasn’t breaking the law with his unusual choice of barbecue ‘meat’.

Authorities were called to the park in Brooklyn, New York, by a nervous onlooker who feared that the man was torturing a squirrel.

Instead, police found the Ecuadorian man roasting a guinea pig.

A police source told the New York Daily News: “He wasn’t holding an animal down and torturing it.

“If he wants to feed on guinea pig that’s his prerogative.”

Officers then let him continue with his early morning ‘snack’.

Guinea pig is considered a delicacy in Ecuador and other countries in Latin America.

The furry friends are popular as pets in the US and Europe, particularly with young children.
