Emile Hirsch - who starred in the likes of Into The Wild, The Girl Next Door and Two Of A Kind - could face up to five years behind bars after being charged on Thursday with assault.
The actor allegedly attacked Paramount executive Daniele Bernfeld two weeks ago at the Sundance Film Festival.
According to reports, an allegedly drunken Emile went up to Daniele, who he didn’t know, and, after the two exchanged words, he grabbed her by the neck, threw her to the floor, and put her into a chokehold.
Daniele, who apparently blacked out during the attack, was rescued by two strangers, who fought to pull the actor off of her.
When police arrived on the scene, Emile admitted that he had been drinking - and marks on Daniele's neck were clearly visible.
The Hollywood star has now been officially charged with aggravated assault, which could land him in prison for five years, as well as one charge of misdemeanour intoxication.
He has yet to release a statement about the incident.
