Gwen Stefani, 44, tweeted a picture of herself getting an autograph from Sting when she was just another teenage fan back in the day this weekend, but she had no idea of the uproar it would cause.
“Chunky me 1983. getting @officialsting autograph backstage,” she captioned the picture, before linking to video of her band No Doubt playing the Super Bowl halftime show with Sting in 2003.
Twitter followers immediately criticised the singer for using the word “chunky” to describe herself, slamming the star for 'fat shaming' herself and pointing out that her words could be seen as hurtful by her younger fans:
Others rushed to the star’s defence as the backlash heated up, saying that the comment shouldn’t have incited any controversy at all:
And others… well, other just turned the whole thing into a joke:
Gwen, who is expecting her third child, was last seen in public flaunting her baby bump with pride - and she has yet to comment on the controversy caused by her tweet.
