The 34-year-old actress announced she was pregnant on the red carpet. The Grey's Anatomy star attended the Television Critics Award and showed off her baby bump.
Caterina and her husband Rob Giles already have a four-year-old daughter Eliza and are said to be excited for the latest addition to their family. The pair married in 2009 and three years later in 2012 they had their daughter Eliza.
And unlike her first pregnancy – which was written into the show – fans of the TV show don't need to wonder whether Caterina's character Amelia Shepherd and her husband Owen Hunt are having a baby because the actress has made it clear her pregnancy won't be written into the show.
The actress told Entertainment Weekly: "I think they don't want to burn through all that story.
"And I think Shonda [the show's producer] is going to give me a break on this one."
She also revealed that season 13 of the show will start just after her characters wedding.
She confessed what she wanted to happen for her character: "I hope we get to explore how complicated and messy and sexy marriage can be.
"A lot of the time the story ends at 'I do.' As a lot of people know, that's the beginning of the story."
We're excited to see the creative ways the TV show covers her bump.
