Her ex-partner lost his battle with prostate cancer just 15 months ago - and now Gillian Taylforth's fiancé has been diagnosed with the same disease.

Talking to the Sunday People, the 59-year-old said of beau David Fairbairn: "Dave's got prostate cancer.

"He actually looks very well but the big C word frightens everybody."

Gillian tragically lost both her mum and late partner Geoff Knights (whom she was with for 23 years) to cancer, so you could forgive her for being afraid.

However the ex-EastEnders star has said she will stay positive, as it's the only way to face the disease head on.

She said simply: "It's touched everyone in every walk of life. My mum had it and Geoff had it. You learn to hate the word.

"It's frightening – it really is – but research is getting good now and you have to always think onwards and upwards."

Dave, who is currently undergoing radiotherapy, said: "It's something we took the decision to live with quietly and not make a fuss about.

"We are really happy with our life – together and that's what matters."

Dave and Gillian met in 2012 and have been a couple ever since.

We wish them all the best during this difficult time.
