Even Prime Minister David Cameron is a fan of 30-year-old Nadiya. He admitted: “She is so cool under pressure.”
But not everyone has been so kind about the mum-of-three. Despite the fact Nadiya won the BBC baking competition fair and square, some ignorant people have accused the show of ‘bowing down to political correctness’, because of her Muslim beliefs.
Hitting back, Nadiya, who was born in England, insisted: “I’m just as British as anyone else and I hope I have proved that.”
Nadiya previously confessed she was concerned “that perhaps people would look at me, a Muslim in a headscarf, and wonder if I could bake.”
Now Nadiya has proved her baking talents, with her ‘big fat British wedding cake’ – which she decorated with jewels from her own wedding day.
A massive 13.4 million people tuned in to see Nadiya crowned the GBBO winner, and now it’s been reported she’s set to earn over £1 million.
PR guru Mark Borkowski told The Sun: “She represents an image of a modern Muslim woman. There is a massive opening for her as a role model.
“The commercial potential is huge. Recipe books, food endorsements, deals with big brands, a line of restaurants. This could be bigger than £1million.”
Following her victory, Nadiya gave an emotional speech and insisted she will never doubt herself again.
She added: “I went into the tent as the smallest baker at 4ft 11ins but I walked out feeling a giant.”
