Clarke Carlisle has finally returned home from hospital after he threw himself in front of a lorry in a desperate suicide bid.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, said his life spiralled out of control after being told by ITV he was losing his £100,000-a-year Champions League pundit role.

Just two days before his suicide bid, he was charged with drink-driving.

She added later: "We send our love and thoughts to the lorry driver & family.

"It could have been anyone and Clarke is desperately sorry that it was him."

Marjorie Wallace, chief executive of the mental health charity SANE, said: "We admire Clarke Carlisle and his family for speaking openly about his depression and his fight for recovery.

"This will encourage many thousands of others who will be experiencing despair in silence and without help."
