Tony Gately, the singer’s younger brother, said the family never received a full story about that happened from Stephen’s partner Andrew Cowles after his death.

On the night he died, Stephen and husband Andrew had been out and met Georgi Dochev in a gay nightclub on the island.

‘Only two people know what went on the night he died’ said Mr Gately, ‘They are his husband Andrew and a Bulgarian guy, Georgi, who was invited to their apartment. Neither of them have fully explained to me what happened.’

A police statement taken from Girogio revealed that Stephen had smoked a cannabis joint and that the trio had been intimate with one another.
