The cast and colleagues of Coronation Street have turned out to Salford Cathedral today for the funeral of Corrie legend Liz Dawn, who passed away two weeks ago.

The funeral, which was held in Salford, was attended by many cast members past and present who attended to celebrate the life of Liz, whose real name was Sylvia Ann Ibbetson, alongside her family and friends.

Liz, who played Vera Duckworth in the show for 34 years, was written out of the soap at her own request in 2008 after being diagnosed with empyhsema in 2001.

She worked alongside her co-star and on-screen husband Bill Tarmey who played Jack Duckworth for nearly all of her time on the soap.

She returned briefly for Bill's last episode as Jack, as he had a vision of Vera in his final moments in one of the most heartbreaking scenes in soap history.

Among the attendees today was Liz's family, and her husband Donald Ibbetson could be seen trying to hold back the tears.
