Trevor Smith, who also starred in Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, threw himself into a quarry near his home Wirksworth, Derbyshire earlier this year.
At the time, a statement from Derbyshire police said: “Officers believe that the body found this afternoon is Trevor Smith, who was also known as Trevor Hancock.”
Now, at an inquest into his death, it has been revealed that Trevor slashed his wrists a week prior to his suicide.
The Mirror's Anthony Bond revealed that the actor spent a week at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
On the same day he was discharged, however, the actor discovered that his father had passed away.
Unwilling to have Trevor left alone at such a difficult time, hospital staff agreed that he should stay with a friend while he arranged his father's funeral.
However the troubled actor later managed to leave the house alone - wearing plaster casts on his wrists - and was quickly reported missing.
After a police search, his body was tragically found in the Middle Peak Quarry in Wirksworth; a post mortem found he died as a result of drowning.
Trevor appeared in Corrie in 1999, when he played a valuer working at the estate agents who were selling The Kabin.
At the time of his death, Coronation Street stars took to Twitter to pay tribute to the late actor.
Kym Marsh was among those who took to Twitter to share her sadness, writing: “Very sad news today. Still in shock. A huge loss for us all RIP to an amazing guy #so young [sic]”
And Samia Ghadie shared a quote, which read: “Be grateful for every second of every day that you get to spend with the people you love. Life is so precious.”
