Danny Pintauro has spoken out on Oprah, bravely revealing he has been suffering with HIV for 12 years.

Hoping to raise awareness for the illness, Danny- who rose to fame in popular '80s sitcom Who’s the Boss - was encouraged by TV mum Judith Light, after a reporter threatened to out him.

"I wanted to tell you this a long time ago, but I wasn’t ready," he said.

"I’m ready now. I’m HIV-positive and I have been for 12 years.”

The 39-year-old hopes addressing the taboo subject will help the gay community ‘take better care’.

Speaking to Oprah, Danny, pictured top left with his husband, revealed he caught the virus while experimenting sexually and doing crystal meth.

Admitting the moment he found out was a devastating one, he told Oprah:

"There’s this awful feeling of, 'I'm never going to be able to have a good relationship, no one's ever gonna want me”.

He has since married husband Wil Tabares and works as a manager in a restaurant in Las Vegas.
