Now, her ex-fiance has come forward to explain the devastating reason that Caroline decided not to have children.

Brett Whitford, a 51-year-old Australian businessman who was engaged to the actress in 2002, has revealed that she was reluctant to have children for fear of “passing on cancer”.

“She didn’t want them to go through what she had been through,” he told The Sun on Sunday.

“She definitely had the emotional capacity to have kids – she just didn’t have the physical health to do it,”

Caroline and Brett met in 2001 when she decided to move to Australia, and after nine months together the couple decided to call it quits and Caroline moved back to the UK.

Thousands of fans and celebrity friends shared their heartbreak over the news of her death last week, praising her for her humour and spirit but expressing their sheer heartbreak at the loss.
