Busted fans were rejoicing last night after news emerged that Charlie Simpson would be joining Matt Willis and James Bourne on stage once again for a hotly anticipated Busted reunion.

The Sun broke the news on Twitter on the same evening that the 30-year-old celebrated the release of his comeback album with post-hardcore rock band Fightstar.

Charlie broke the hearts of teenage girls up and down the country when he quit the band in 2005 to focus on his music with Fightstar.

In the years following his departure he maintained that his return to Busted would be out of the question, saying in an interview: “I want to make it unequivocally clear that I have no interest whatsoever in rejoining Busted and I never will.”

But a source revealed to The Sun that the former bandmates will be meeting up to work on re-forming.

“Busted are re-forming by the end of the year and Charlie is part of the band again. It’s amazing because Matt and James have always said there’s more chance of pigs flying than Charlie coming back to Busted.

“But this is something that has been secretly discussed for a number of months- it was important the three guys felt they could work together again and get along as friends.”

2015 has been a big year for Charlie. After a successful year releasing his solo music, Charlie has been back in the studio with Fighstar AND become a dad for the very first time.

His wife of one year Anna Barnard gave birth to their son Arlo back in July.
