Adele was forced to cancel the final dates of her mammoth 123-concert world tour this week after she was told she needed to give herself a rest after overworking her voice.

But the star’s team are apparently now terrified she has done irreversible damage, meaning she may never be able to sing again.

The musician has been on tour since 2016 and has so far performed 121 shows across the globe, singing songs from her latest record-breaking album 25.

However, in recent weeks she had complained of a sore throat and had been sipping honey on stage, also joking that it sounded like there was a “dead rat” in her throat.

This is not the first time Adele has had trouble with her voice - in 2011 she suffered a throat haemorrhage and cancelled her US tour before teaching herself to sing in a different way.

But it is now feared any damage may be permanent, with a source telling The Sun: “Adele was desperate to do the tour for her fans and her team did everything they could to protect her voice.

“The dates were spaced out so she could recover between shows, and she followed a plan put in place by vocal coaches to the letter.”

But Adele herself admitted she “struggled in the earlier gigs” and “pushed right through the pain, and that may have done irreversible damage”.

She posted a statement on Twitter on Saturday morning apologising to fans and explained why she was cancelling the final two dates of her tour.

In typical Adele style, she joked: “Who the f-@k cancels a show at Wembley Stadium?”
