"I am very embarrassed about the article that was published but do not feel it fully reflects what happened and I wish to clarify my position to Closer readers.

"Myself and my partner had been on a dating app and embarked on what I believed was a private conversation between consenting adults.

"The newspaper report does not impact in any way on my professional standing as a doctor"

"I did not meet this man nor did I take drugs with him. In hindsight, I now feel foolish and naïve to have embarked on such a conversation with a stranger.

"As far as I was concerned, the conversation was not a serious one. Many of the messages published were taken out of context, said tongue-in-cheek, and not meant to be taken seriously.

"The newspaper report does not impact in any way on my professional standing as a doctor: I have never recommended that anyone take risks with recreational drugs.

"The issue should in no way reflect on my dedication and genuine passion for my job and my commitment to providing the public, including Closer readers, with the very best health advice."
